Play Daily #39About this case
Daily #39 is set in the stairwell: a 6 × 6 board, 22 squares of floor with one short wall inside. Everyone knows which stair creaks, and everyone still forgets. The family has been here for two earlier dailys. Four of the Fibbersons were there: Dad, the Kid, Grandma and Rex. One of them is fibbing. On the case file: Who slid down the banister again? What they saw, or didn’t, is about the plant, the sneakers and the creaky step, and each other. Move them around the stairwell until every story fits but one.

In the room
- Plant tall
- Laundry basket low
- Sneakers flat
- Creaky step flat
- Cabinet tall
The tall things in the stairwell: the plant and the cabinet. Every pair of eyes stops there. Down at the Kid’s height there is the laundry basket, low enough for Dad and Grandma to see over. The sneakers and the creaky step lie flat: everyone sees straight past. The room isn’t a plain rectangle: 14 of the board’s 36 squares are cut away.
How they see in here
In the stairwell, Dad looks along a row of six squares and a column of six, and a wall or something tall cuts either one short.
The Kid is the shortest of the family: in the stairwell, everything low blocks his view as well as everything tall.
Grandma sees two squares in every direction, diagonals too, and walls and tall things stop her.
Rex can’t see at all: he smells the eight squares around him, straight through walls and furniture.
Every rule, with pictures, is in How to play.
A tip for this room
Low things are where the Kid and Dad part ways: the Kid’s view stops at them and Dad’s doesn’t. A square that works for one may not work for the other.
