About this case

Daily #44 is set in the bathroom: a 5 × 5 board, 25 squares of floor with three short walls inside. Steam fogs the mirror, and nobody ever admits to using all the hot water. The family has been here for three earlier dailys. Four of the Fibbersons were there: Dad, the Kid, Grandma and Rex. One of them is fibbing. The case file asks: Who filled the bathroom with bubbles? Their stories turn on the rubber duck, the plant and the sweater, and on each other. Place them in the bathroom so every story fits but one, and that one is your answer.

In the room

  • Bathtub low
  • Cabinet tall
  • Rubber duck low
  • Plant tall
  • Sweater flat

The cabinet and the plant are tall, so nobody sees past them, but Rex smells straight through. Down at the Kid’s height there are the bathtub and the rubber duck, low enough for Dad and Grandma to see over. Flat on the floor: the sweater, which blocks nobody.

How they see in here

  • In the bathroom, Dad looks along a row of five squares and a column of five, and a wall or something tall cuts either one short.

  • The Kid looks along his row and column like Dad, but the room’s low things block him too.

  • Grandma sees two squares in every direction, diagonals too, and walls and tall things stop her.

  • Rex sniffs rather than looks, and only the eight squares touching his own; not even a wall stops his nose.

Every rule, with pictures, is in How to play.

A tip for this room

Start with the tightest story. Grandma sees only two squares each way, so anything she saw was close to her.
